WordPress Help & Customization

WordPress setup and customizationI LOVE, LOVE, LOVE helping people set up and customize their WordPress sites! I’ve been helping out my friends and family get their sites set up for a while now and I figured hey! Maybe I should offer my services to other people who want to start blogging or improve the look and functionality of their blogs.

Soon enough when I have a sec, I’ll create a list here of the sites I’ve done so you can get an idea of the kind of work that I do.

In the meantime though, if you’re a blogger or business owner that wants a WordPress site set up and customized, you can contact me by leaving a comment on this page. I promise I’ll get back to you asap!

Is there any free(or inexpensive)/easy/smart way to setup a nice wordpress site similar to what you have (not just plain vanilla) and be able to put it on my own domain? I know some limited HTML and stuff, but no CSS. Any tips for a n00b who is just doing it for fun an not commercial purposes? =)

Hi B, there sure is. Take a look at the links under my Resources in the sidebar. I just listed my Delicious links to WordPress themes I have been bookmarking for a while. There are both free and premium themes you can get. Many of them are really beautiful out of the box, so you won’t need to customize them much with CSS.

To put it on your own domain though, you will need a hosting plan with a one click install (if they don’t advertise the one click install you’ll have a nightmare trying to get it set up, believe me i know!) and then you’ll have to self host it.

If you just want to play around, you can always sign up for a free blog at wordpress.com and for a small fee you will be able to mask any domain to the site. Be aware however that you are limited to the few themes WordPress.com offers. you will not be able to download any theme you want and use it. You also will not be able to do much customization with CSS (altho sounds like you don’t use it anyway) unless you pay another fee.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
