The land that the community of Lowry sits on was formerly a working Air Force base in Denver. Today, it's a mixed-use, forward thinking community on approximately 3 square miles just east of downtown Denver. "The idea behind Lowry was to take an existing urban area, give it new life and avoid adding to the problem of urban sprawl," says the urban development's official website. The community has since been given the Governor's Award for Smart Growth and now stands as a model for urban-infill projects nationwide.

Lowry consists of a town center with shops and restaurants, multiple parks, recreational amenities and schools. And about 3500 new home neighborhoods, townhomes, condos and apartments. Housing prices range from the $100,000's to $2 million.
